Alfa Laval and Westfalia (now GEA) marine separators require disc-stack inspection at 4,000 operating hours and a major overhaul at 8,000 hours. Gravity discs are matched to fuel/lube-oil density and viscosity — getting the right one is more consequential than any other single decision.

Disc stack
Inspect at 4,000 h, replace at 8,000 h or on visible erosion. Stack height tolerance is critical — a tired stack will not separate at rated throughput.
Bowl & gravity disc
Verify gravity-disc bore against current fuel density before every overhaul. A 1 mm change can shift the interface and break separation.
Seal kit & gaskets
Replace the full seal kit at every major overhaul. MARITECH stocks original Alfa Laval and Westfalia/GEA seal kits in Hamburg.
Friction blocks
Check friction blocks for wear at 4,000 h; replace as a set, never individually.
